What treatment options do we offer?

Appropriate treatment should begin after diagnosis, as an ADHD diagnosis can impair mental well-being without psychological and, if necessary, medication support. The best treatment option will be determined based on your wishes, the recommendations of the diagnosing physician, the severity of symptoms, and any comorbidities.
We offer psychoeducation in individual or group settings, as well as medication-based therapies, which can also be combined. The decision regarding medication use is made by our medical professionals, taking into account your health status and the results of your examination.

Psychoeducation or psychotherapy: which is better for me?

If you’ve been diagnosed with ADHD, you may be wondering whether psychoeducation or psychotherapy is the right choice for you. Here’s a brief overview:
  • psychotherapy: Here, you’ll work on deeper emotional issues, conflicts, or psychological stress in longer, intensive one-on-one sessions. This can last months or years.
  • Psychoeducation: It’s like an “ADHD driver’s license.” You’ll learn to understand your ADHD symptoms and receive practical tools for everyday life, such as time management, impulse control, and concentration strategies.
Psychoeducation is often the best first step: You’ll quickly recognize that your challenges are neurological, not personal. Furthermore, the strategies you learn can be implemented immediately.
The decision depends on your needs: Psychoeducation helps you manage your everyday life. Accompanying psychotherapy may be beneficial if you are experiencing additional psychological stress. You can also start with psychoeducation and add more later.

Yes, it is possible, even with an external diagnosis.

There are basically two options for medication treatment at GAM Medical:

Complete diagnostics via GAM:
If you undergo the complete AD(H)D diagnostics with us, medication treatment is easily possible – including a private prescription and regular medical supervision.

Existing external diagnosis:
If a diagnosis has already been made by a specialist, we will review it on a case-by-case basis (review fee: €59). Depending on the quality of the documentation, one or two additional appointments (€119 per appointment) may be necessary. We also require a current ECG and blood work. Please note:
Treatment is only possible if all medical requirements are met.

Our capacity is currently largely occupied by existing patients. Therefore, there is a waiting list for external inquiries with an existing diagnosis.

GAM Medical psychiatrists can prescribe all ADHD medications, even those that are off-label.
The term "off-label" refers to the practice permitted under Italian law of using certain medicines for purposes other than those for which they are approved. Since these medicines lack a specific therapeutic indication, they may not be reimbursed by the national health system. The drug may be legal in Italy, but insurance does not cover the costs. These medicines are approved according to the ETIKAT International guidelines.

“Very good and understanding ADHD diagnostics”
I had an ADHD diagnosis carried out at GAM and am very satisfied overall. I would particularly like to highlight Ms. Kaiser, who looked after me with great understanding during the sessions. I felt comfortable during the sessions and was able to talk openly about my concerns. The diagnostic process was professional and although the report took a little longer, I don’t see that as a disadvantage. All in all, a highly recommended place to go for a thorough ADHD diagnosis.

Regardless of the diagnosis, you get the feeling that time is taken and a thorough process is followed. The psychologists/psychiatrists seem very competent and knowledgeable in this area. + Great customer service and always available to answer any questions. There were four diagnostic appointments at the practice, but this didn’t just mean going through all the diagnostic steps in a blunt manner, but rather that you could learn a lot about yourself and grow through the conversations and different perspectives.
